Round 1 of 6 of the AusCycling Club National Esports Series Report By Dan “Salty” IronsideOn Wednesday night this week, 20 PLCC members competed in Round 1 of 6 of the AusCycling Club National Esports Series which was held on the virtual roads of Zwift. Round 1 started off with a bang on the “City Crit course” with 12 laps (22.8km) on this fast and punchy course. With numerous great results across the grades PLCC punched above its weight! The PLCC green machines had representatives in A, B and C grades. For each round, finishers in the top 30 of each race were awarded points, adding to the clubs overall total for the end of the series. A Grade: With some of the best riders around, there was no doubt this was going to be a fast and furious race. In the mix, Brian Calleija, James Everett, Matt Hazard, Keegan Ross, Jerel David and Andy Yuen bore the green and came away with three finishing top 30. Jerel in 8th, Brian 18th & James 29th.B Grade: Expected to be another fast-paced slog to the finish, B grade did not disappoint. Starting in the pens for the PLCC team; Steve Elliot, Doug Cargen, Phil Kable and Andrew Mariner gave it their all coming away with a 13th place finish to Steve in closely contested race.C Grade: Third to set off, but by no means any less gruelling, ten keen PLCC members took on a large field of strong riders. Pat Coleman, Shannon Goard, John Muirhead, Daniel Majgaard, Russell Fox, Nathan Comans, Mike Harding, Ben Thompson, Bruce Black and Daniel Ironside put in a massive shift and came away with five top 30 finishers in the official results. Huge shoutout to Bruce Black (2nd) and Daniel Majgaard (3rd) for making the podium, Russell in 11th, Pat in 23rd & Shannon coming in 28th.At the end of Round 1, Parklife Cycling Club sit in at 6th place overall out of a total of 35 clubs from around Australia and 3rd in the Men’s overall standings. What a fantastic start to what I’m sure will be a fun and exciting series. Stay tuned for the coming weeks to stay up to date with all the action. If you missed race 1 but would like to be involved with upcoming racing and representing PLCC, please reach out to Andy Yuen or Shannon Goard on one of the club Whats App chat groups. September Challenge – Week 2 WinnersOnce again there were some great entries in the September Challenge in Week 2.The winner in the Elevation Challenge is Mick Dunne who completed 1000m of elevation in 59m and 54s. That is a solid effort Mick and one that puts you at the pointy end for you age group! The winner in the Strava Art Challenge was Anthony Petterson who made a lovely fish design. This must have taken some creative pre planning for sure.In the Local Streets Challenge the winner was Carolyn Delgado who explored many streets in and around Newington and SOP. In the Zwift Challenge the winner was Vin PR who did several rides on Zwift this week including the club social ride as well as competing his first century in Zwift land. Well done Vin! An honourable mention should also go to Shannon Goard who rode 303km on Zwift on Saturday. The four winners get a pair of PLCC Socks or a PLCC Cap. With lockdown really starting to bite, it’s more important than ever to ask your mates how they are going. Have a chat and most importantly listen and don’t try to solve their problems. Going for a ride on a bike with someone is a great way to start a conversation. If there are serious issues suggest that they talk to a Doctor or Psychologist and or ring Lifeline or Beyond Blue. September Challenge – Week 1 WinnersThere were some creative, clever and strong riding in Week 1 of the September challenge. The winner in the Elevation Challenge is Brian Calleija who completed 1096m metres of elevation in the 1 hour on the infamous Florence Ave. This was a super effort with some big power numbers. However, I think that there are a few climbers out there that need to set a benchmark. In the Local Streets Challenge the winner was Lisa Nicholls who rode every street in her suburb! Quite an effort and also would have required some pre ride organising and logistics. In the Zwift challenge the winner was of course Daniel “Salty” Ironside. He completed all the required zwift rides and heaps more with a total of just shy of 850 km for the week, all on Zwift. Sadly we did not get an entrant on the Strava art Challenge. So get your creative caps on. The three winners get a pair of PLCC Socks or a PLCC Cap. Just drop by Park Bikes (note click and collect restrictions) to claim your prize. Don’t forget that the winners from any week cannot win the same category again. They can however win another category. See MoreSee Less
